Peer review
I review research on drinking-water quality, water and sanitation services, groundwater contamination, household water insecurity, membrane treatment and environmental-health risks. Reviewing keeps me current on new treatment and service-delivery work, and it forces me to state a methodological concern precisely enough for an author to act on it.
Why I review
Much of the research I review examines a technology or service deployed in a resource-constrained setting and asks what changed afterward. I have worked on that problem from the implementation side, so I look closely at whether the intervention was delivered as described, whether the outcome and denominator are clear, and whether the conclusion travels beyond the data.
Peer review also keeps me current on new water-treatment and service-delivery research, and forces me to explain methodological concerns precisely enough for an author to act on them.
